A man who made immense contribution to Fiji over a number of years has passed away in Australia.
Douglas Brown who was an agriculturalist arrived in Fiji before the 1950's.
He was a son of a Methodist Minister and was also a local preacher.
Brown took charge of the Navuso Agricultural School and eventually entered politics and became the Minister for Agriculture Fisheries and Forests.
He was a general elector member of the Alliance Party which was led by the late Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara.
In September 1966, Fiji held elections under a new constitution.
It was an important contest fought between the Alliance and the Federation Party.
After the elections, Ratu Mara gave his Natural Resources portfolio to Douglas Brown.
Brown was the President of the Fiji School Rugby Union from 1956 to 1960.
He was also a former President of the Rewa Rugby Union and a former manager of the touring Fiji rugby side.
The late Douglas Brown was also a member of the Rewa Valley Planning Committee.
Brown who celebrated his 92nd birthday earlier this month passed away peacefully at his home in Australia on Saturday morning.
