It's a double celebration for retired and serving members of the Fiji Police Force and their families as they celebrate Fiji’s 54th Independence and the Fiji Police Force's 150th Sesquicentennial Anniversary this year.
Police say their existence today was created by the new Colonial Administration when the first officers were appointed by notice in the Royal Gazette dated 10th October 1874, and the ADC to the Governor was appointed Superintendent of Police.
They say for 150 years, Fiji Police officers, have heeded the call to serve and the Sesquicentennial Anniversary will provide an opportunity to honour past serving sworn and non-sworn members and their families, and communities that have supported the work of policing in our beloved Fiji.
Police say as they celebrate Fiji's Independence, they ask that we continue to prioritize people's safety and ensure that we take all necessary safety and security measures in all planned activities for today.
