The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre believes domestic violence is an ongoing epidemic that has always existed.
This has been highlighted by the FWCC Coordinator, Shamima Ali, as she says not all women who suffer from violence are reporting the matter and it ends up terribly when a life is taken.
Ali says statistics show that two in three women experience domestic violence.
She adds they received requests from various communities and provincial councils to educate communities in Viti Levu, Vanua Levu and the islands.
She says they are raising awareness and asking women through social media and radio awareness to call them if they are going through the issue.
She urges women who are undergoing domestic violence to seek help by calling Lifeline Fiji on 1543, Empower Pacific on 5626 or the Domestic Violence Helpline on 1560 for appropriate referrals.
