Spending hundreds of dollars travelling to Korovou, Nausori or Suva to access medical services will be a thing of the past for thousands of Fijians residing in the districts of Dawasamu, Namena, and Sawakasa in Tailevu after the opening of Dogo Health Centre past Nananu Village in Tailevu.
Queen Victoria School Principal Timoci Vosailagi says the new Health Centre is a relief for them as sometimes they take their students to Korovou or all the way to Nausori and Suva to get medical attention.
He says now, it probably takes 10 minutes to reach Dogo Health Centre and get medical services.
He adds that the facilities at the Centre are marvellous and will greatly benefit the community.
While opening the new Health Centre Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka said the Government of New Zealand has invested $4 million in the refurbishment and upgrading of health facilities nationwide.
He acknowledged the continuous assistance from the New Zealand Government during our times of need.
Rabuka says the construction and refurbishment of the Centre is worth $472,895, and will oversee the services provided by three nursing stations in Tailevu.
He adds this Centre will serve more than 8,000 people, inclusive of all ages from birth to over 70 years.
New Zealand High Commissioner to Fiji Charlotte Darlow says from her experiences living with people who worked in our health sector and primary care that this is a life of service and commitment.
She says they have upgraded and refurbished our health facilities to support the country’s medical professionals in providing good and quality medical services to the people.
