The Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources staff in the Western Division were reminded by their Minister, Filimoni Vosarogo, not to fear him as he was there not to terminate anybody’s job, but to encourage them all to do their work to the best of their abilities.
Vosarogo is on a tour of the Western Division, meeting with various stakeholders and Ministry staff in the West.
He says elections are over, and it is now time to work.
Reassuring the staff, the Minister says that contracts are now being discussed between the Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources and the Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, and staff will have the option to retire at 55 years or continue until 60 years of age.
He adds there will be no longer short-term contracts for established positions in the Ministry which gives stability and job security to staff.
Vosarogo says as a former civil servant himself having served in the Office of the Public Prosecutor and as Director of Legal Aid for eight years and, likewise, as a son of a former civil servant, he understands all too well the call to be a civil servant.
