Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho has directed the Divisional Police Commander Southern to look into the issue of people openly having sex in a vacant piece of land in Nabua.
A representative of the Laxmi Narayan Temple in Nabua had raised the issue with Qiliho during a Talanoa Session earlier this week.
Qiliho says he has told the Divisional Police Commander Southern that when these issues are raised at such forums, it shows the Police Station that looks after that area of responsibility has not been doing its job.
Qiliho says this also raises the weakness on the part of Police in looking after that area.
The Police Commissioner says he is now personally looking at issues from the Nabua area.
He adds that this report highlights the issue that they need to deal with reports effectively.
Rajesh Narayan had told the Police Commissioner during the public forum in Nakasi that he had invited a station officer from Nabua in 2016 to look into the issue but nothing was done.
Narayan says the vacant land had a small shed just behind the temple opposite Foodtown Supermarket in Nabua.
He says he saw a group of people smoking marijuana in the area and reported this to police on Monday.
Narayan says parents are scared to take their children to a nearby pre‑school.
