Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says they have had discussions with the judiciary about establishing a separate branch that looks exclusively at corruption-related cases.
While speaking during the observance of the International Anti-Corruption Day at GPH, Sayed-Khaiyum says the so called white-collar crimes too often takes place at the upper hand of the socio-economic spectrum.
Sayed-Khaiyum says white-collar crimes and blue-collar crimes must be treated equally and the culture of corruption must be combatted at every level.
Sayed-Khaiyum says if we are to build a culture of fairness and deterrence when it comes to corruption, we need the judiciary squarely on the side of a corruption-free Fiji.
He adds that we need the courts to be fully enlisted in Fiji’s quest to root out corruption, inequality and punish all those who break the law.
He says that corruption is the theft of our people’s future and it undermines their belief that they can achieve their ambition through hard work and honest means.
Sayed-Khaiyum further says even worse, corruption breeds more corruption.
