Digicel Fiji is deeply saddened by and greatly concerned about the devastation caused by Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu and they are ready to assist where possible.
Digicel Fiji’s Commercial Director Andrew Skelton said they were tracking the progress of Cyclone Pam and are now activating their recovery plan.
This included putting together technical equipment and other supplies which will help the nation in recovery efforts.
Skelton said their thoughts and prayers are with all communities affected in Vanuatu.
He pointed out that communication services are of utmost importance as families and loved ones need to stay connected with those across the islands and abroad.
With that, Digicel Vanuatu has almost completely restored network connectivity in the capital Port Vila, with about 70% of urban population in Port Vila back on air.
The Digicel Fiji team gathered yesterday to help organize the much needed technical equipment and supplies, and is working with local authorities to organize the delivery of these items to Port Vila in the coming days.
Public charging stations are being deployed across the islands in Vanuatu so that customers can power their phones and Digicel is providing US$250,000 in free credit so that customers can get in touch with their loved ones as services are restored.
