Swire Shipping Fijian Drua backrower Meli Derenalagi has been appointed as the captain of the club for the 2024 Shop N Save Super Rugby Season.
In a statement, the Drua says Derenalagi has been part of the Fijian Drua since inception and has been a standout leader on and off the field through the club’s first two seasons in the competition.
Coach Mick Byrne says the backrower is no stranger to the role having been the captain last season and they look forward to seeing him take on the challenge once again, now that they have seven crucial home games.
He says as a young leader, Derenalagi will have learned a lot from last season, and they are confident that he will continue to grow as the team progresses through the competition.
Byrne says Derenalagi will be strongly supported by the leadership of Mesake Doge, Tevita Ikanivere and Iosefo Masi.
Derenalagi will lead the Drua in their trial match against the ACT Brumbies at 9.35pm this Saturday in Canberra.
