The Department of Immigration under the Office of the Prime Minister signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Telecom Fiji Limited for the supply of more secure and high speed dedicated internet access.
The agreement will allow all immigration offices in the country to be connected to the main internet server at the Department of Immigration headquarters in Suva and paves the way for improved and faster data and knowledge-sharing within the Department.
Permanent Secretary for Immigration and Acting Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Yogesh Karan signed the MOA with Telecom CEO, Charles Goundar.
Karan says the internet, among other communication tools, is crucial in the work of the Department.
He says this is another initiative aimed at further boosting their daily operations. He adds they will be working very closely with Telecom as they will be their dedicated internet provider.
Karan says providing efficient and effective immigration services are key areas for the Department and with adequate internet connectivity, service delivery is expected to be further enhanced.
Telecom CEO, Charles Goundar says Telecom’s high-speed connectivity solutions will ensure that the Department of Immigration can engage in much faster and improved data and knowledge-sharing amongst its offices Fiji wide.
Under the agreement, Telecom will conduct service installation, testing and maintenance and other technical undertakings for this high-speed internet connectivity services to the department.
