The defence witness in the rape trial of the former proposed candidate of the National Federation Party who medically examined him has told the court that the accused was suffering from certain medical conditions which make him unable to have an erection.
Dr Sailasa Misimisi told the court that he found out through the results of his medical examination that the accused was suffering from a drop in testosterone levels and hypothyroidism.
When questioned in court by defence lawyer Devanesh Sharma if these two medical conditions can cause the inability to have an erection, Dr Misimisi says that it can.
Dr Misimisi also told the court that the testosterone level falls as we age and this is the case for the accused.
He says the medical examination was done in July this year.
The 66-year-old man is alleged to have raped and sexually assaulted his 54-year-old sister in law in Nasinu in June last year.
