The Defence Club of Fiji is celebrating 100 years of its existence today.
It was founded in 1915 on strong military principles by the then Governor of Fiji Sir Ernest Sweet‑Escott.
President, Tom Rickets says the club was made up of servicemen who were in Fiji during World War I but this has changed over the years.
He says they currently have 200 members.
The Defence Club’s colourful past includes such memorable occurrences like the visit of Kingsford Smith during his epic and historic flight of the Southern Cross over the South Pacific in 1928.
