SODELPA candidate Ro Filipe Tuisawau says that after the Great Councils of Chiefs representatives were removed, the decisions of the iTaukei are being made Government officials.
While speaking in a campaign meeting in Kalokolevu Village, Tuisawau says that SODELPA views this as a denial of the right of the iTaukei to be represented at a higher level and to make their own decisions on their own resources.
He says that this is something SODELPA wishes to rectify and they also view it as government interference in the management of iTaukei land resources.
Tuisawau says that one of the possible effects of the removal of the GCC is that the iTaukei are not being made aware of changes which are happening now and the changes that have also happened in the last 12 years.
He says issues would be resolved by setting up the GCC and ensuring that the iTaukei are represented properly in the decision making bodies that are administering their land.
