Decentralizing mental health services into the general health system will not only save lives but also reduce the negative health outcomes faced by the people suffering from mental illness.
This was highlighted by the first Lady Adi Koila Naitatikau during the launch of the National Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Policy.
Nailatikau highlights most people with mental disclosures do not need to go to St Giles Hospital as research and statistics shows that most of the people recover from mental illness if they get support.
She says most people can be supported in their own communities by doctors and nurses that are training in mental health.
She adds they plan to introduce the wellness centre "Seemless Care" for people who develop a serious and long lasting mental disorder.
