Sir Graham Henry says New Zealand Rugby made a mistake in appointing Ian Foster as All Blacks coach.
Instead, Henry believed new Wallabies coach Dave Rennie should have got the job.
Henry was part of the panel that selected Foster as Steve Hansen's successor late last year. However, Rennie had been nabbed by Australia earlier, leaving the panel to choose between Foster and Scott Robertson.
Henry, who guided New Zealand to win the 2011 Rugby World Cup, was speaking at the Wairarapa Bush Rugby Sports Award function as a special guest.
He says said it was "too early" to say whether Foster was up to the job.
The All Blacks face the Wallabies at 3pm tomorrow in the second Bledisloe Cup match.
