Following his match-winning heroics for the Chiefs, Damian McKenzie has been named the Most Valuable Player by popular New Zealand news media website – Stuff.co.nz.

The All Blacks playmaker was the clear winner after last weekend’s final round, beating Crusaders captain Codie Taylor and Hurricanes skipper, Ardie Savea.

Stuff’s rugby writers have been assigning MVP points on a 3-2-1 basis after every Super Rugby Aotearoa match.

After 10 rounds, McKenzie was top with 14 points, six points ahead of Taylor who is second and seven points more than Savea.

McKenzie is the leading points scorer in Super Rugby Aotearoa ahead of the final with 98 points and last month he secured the Chiefs three successive victories at the death against the Highlanders, Crusaders and Hurricanes.

The Chiefs fullback has his sight set on the upcoming Super Rugby Aotearoa Final where the Chiefs will play the Crusaders at 7.05pm Saturday.
