A fire hydrant along Kauvesi Park in Raiwai has been damaged causing system imbalances

The Water Authority of Fiji says it is continuing to work around the clock to normalise water supply to residents in parts of Nasinu and certain areas in Suva who have been without water since Thursday night.

It says restoration coverage is now at 90%.

Fijivillage has been receiving calls from people living in Samabula, Sakoca, Kinoya, Raiwai and Rewa Street about water disruptions in their areas since Thursday night.

Water supply was expected to normalise by 6 o’clock this morning but they still have no water.

Water disruptions started on Thursday night due to a burst bulk main at the Waila Water Treatment Plant. This bulk main feeds treated water from the Waila Water Treatment Plant to the Wainibuku main distribution reservoir.

The Water Authority of Fiji says a fire hydrant along Kauvesi Park in Raiwai has been damaged causing system imbalances and affecting the hydraulics of the water supply reticulation, by allowing air to enter the system resulting in airlocks.

It says this has slowed down the delivery of water to those Fijians who are without water right now.

The Water Authority of Fiji also says the impacted service reservoirs need to be filled to capacity in order to increase pressure on the reticulation.

Water supply was restored to people in Davuilevu, Naulu, Nakasi, Makoi, Narere, Muanikoso, Nepani, Nadawa, Nadera and Wainibuku by midday yesterday.

If you need water carting trucks in your areas, call WAF’s National Contact Centre on 334 6777 or 5777 or toll-free helpline on 1507.
