The Suva Magistrates Court has reinstated all bail conditions imposed on former Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum except reporting to the police station on the last Saturday of the month as he has returned to the country.
A bail variation was granted to Sayed-Khaiyum to allow him to go overseas to undergo medical procedures.
He returned on Boxing Day last year.
Sayed-Khaiyum's lawyer, Gul Fatima informed the court that his passport has been returned to the court registry on 2nd January.
His lawyer, Devanesh Sharma also thanked the court for having faith in Sayed-Khaiyum.
He says he had said that Sayed-Khaiyum would return and he is back.
Acting Chief Magistrate Waleen George says when someone is sick, the priority is not to have petty issues.
Acting Director of Public Prosecutions John Rabuku is now representing the State.
He says Deputy DPP Elizabeth Rice who was handling the matter previously, handed over the case to him on Friday and he does not have all the documents ready and had asked for more time.
Sayed-Khaiyum’s charge relates to a report lodged by the Acting Supervisor of Elections, Ana Mataiciwa.
It is alleged that Sayed-Khaiyum between June 30th and July 12th 2022, while being the Acting Prime Minister, signed a Deed of Variation and Addendum between the Government and the then Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem.
It is alleged the approval for the government to pay the taxes of Saneem was done without the proper approval of the Constitutional Offices Commission and the President.
The matter has been adjourned to the 19th of March.
