The teacher of Lelean Memorial High School, who allegedly assaulted some Year 9 students, has been encouraged by the Nausori Magistrates Court to settle the matter.
28-year-old Filipe Qio appeared before Magistrate Samanunu Vaniqi this morning.
It is alleged that he used an object to discipline the students who were making noise in the classroom.
He is charged with one count of assault.
Magistrate Vaniqi says if the settlement takes place then they can record the statement of withdrawal.
She says if the Ministry of Education has a different policy, then that's not her issue.
The matter has been adjourned to 13th January for mention.
