Councils told to carry out a rate profiling exercise

Municipal Councils in the Northern and Western Divisions have been told by the Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar to carry out a rate profiling exercise; to recover their rate arrears.

Kumar highlighted this when she visited Municipal Councils in the Northern and Western divisions.

She also urged Municipal Councils to ensure their Annual Reports are compiled and submitted in a timely manner.

During the visits, Kumar also met with teams of Special Administrators of the various Municipal Councils, ratepayers, market vendors, taxi operators, business communities.

The total rate arrears by all Municipal Councils is now $42.4m.

The current rates for 2020 that is yet to be collected is $13.1m.
