The Fiji National Council for Disabled Persons says that they still have not received their grant for the third quarter of this year and this has had a hindrance in their performance however the Ministry for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation has confirmed that the Council's new tranche of funding was transferred to their accounts yesterday.
Council Executive Officer, Kush Prasad highlighted this while she was presenting their 2016/2017 Audit Report in the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts.
When questioned by SODELPA MP and Committee member, Aseri Radrodro on what type of challenges are they currently facing, Prasad says their main challenge is funding.
Prasad says that if they do not have the money then they will not be able to do their job.
She says there is a lot of delay in appointments that lead to the delay in their work.
Prasad has also called for fast track of work to be done by civil servants so that they are given their grants on time and for them to do their job.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Jennifer Poole has confirmed that it was not their delay.
Poole says the Council has received all their grant amounts for the last financial year however, they are yet to finally acquit that funding expenditure.
She says this means they were running on their last financial year's allocation and had come to the end of that amount.
Poole says they just received the final acquittal yesterday for the last financial year then they released the next tranche immediately to the Council.
She says that Ministry can only release funding if acquittals are received and cleared.
