The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission says with the ban of single-use plastic bags beginning next year, some businesses are now charging customers for the use of cartons.
Commission CEO Joel Abraham says the cost of the cartons are already included in the markup price for whatever products they are selling.
Abraham says this means that when consumers pay for cartons now, they are being charged twice the value of a product.
He says it is unfortunate that traders continue to disregard warnings issued and reports of bad business practices continue to emerge.
Abraham says they will not allow any trader to continue to engage in unethical practices in our market.
