Corruption at Nasinu Town Council was the highest and a number of cases have been lodged at FICAC according to the Minister for Local Government, Premila Kumar.
She says it has taken more than two years for the Special Administrator and CEO to change the perception of Nasinu Town Council, particularly the way the staff were operating.
While speaking at the Nasinu and Nausori Town Councils Agenda Day Workshop, Kumar says people went door to door collecting rates but it was not deposited in the council’s account.
She says there were many other corrupt practices taking place where bribes were taken for allocation of stalls or allowing people to build road side stalls.
However, she says these practices have changed.
Kumar says when she became the Minister for Local Government in the 2018/2019 financial year, her aim was to bring about change in the internal operations of municipal councils.
