Conway Beg has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Fiji Rugby Union.
This has been confirmed by FRU CEO John O'Connor in a press conference this morning who says Beg will succeed outgoing Chairman Francis Kean.
O'Connor says that Beg was appointed to the FRU by the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama under the provisions of the Fiji Rugby Constitution.
Beg says he is grateful to the Prime Minister for appointing him as well as the Directors for showing support and electing him as the Chairman.
He says his first engagement is to continue from where Francis Kean left off.
Beg was the Assistant Coach of the National Team in 2001 which won the Pacific Rim Championships for the first time after beating Samoa 28-17 in the final.
He also coached the Fiji U21 side in 2001 which won the International U21 series after beating Australia in the final.
Meanwhile O’Connor has thanked Francis Kean for all the achievements and working tirelessly to realize the huge momentum that Fiji Rugby has achieved on the world stage.
He adds Kean’s no nonsense leadership in the last 5 years has resulted in bringing the FRU to where it is today.
