The Consumer Council of Fiji has reminded food establishments to adhere to proper hygiene practices after a consumer found hair in a meal purchased from a well-known fast-food restaurant.
The Council says although a replacement was initially provided, the consumer felt customer service could improve.
They say the Council intervened, resulting in an apology and an additional replacement meal.
The Council says the restaurant was also issued a warning to improve its cleaning practices and customer service.
They further say according to Section 10 of the Food Safety Act 2003, food businesses have a fundamental responsibility to ensure that the food they produce, handle, store, and sell is safe and fit for human consumption.
They add food businesses must adhere to proper hygiene practices at all stages of food handling which includes preparation, processing, storage and transport to avoid contamination.
