Consultation starts for Immigration Act 2003 and name change policy begins

Public consultation on the review of the Immigration Act 2003 and review of the name change policy will be held next week.

The government says the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration with the Office of the Attorney General will hold consultations on the review of the Immigration Act 2003 for visa and permit exemptions for persons registered in the Vola ni Kawa Bula.

The consultation will start tomorrow from 2pm to 4pm at the Suva Civic Centre, from 1pm to 2.30pm at the Labasa Civic Centre on Tuesday, from 10am to 12pm at the Nadi Civic Centre on Wednesday and from 2pm to 4pm at the Lautoka City Council.

For the name change policy, the government says the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice, together with the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, will hold consultations on the review of this policy that was brought about by the amendments to the Interpretation Act 1967 and the Electoral (registration of voters) Act 2012 in 2021.

Consultation for the name change policy will start tomorrow at the Suva Civic Centre from 10am to 12pm, from 10am to 12pm on Tuesday at the Labasa Civic Centre, and from 2pm to 4pm at the Nadi Civic Centre on Wednesday.
