The consultation on the draft volatile substance abuse is now underway in Serua at the provincial office.
Amongst those who made their submission today is Serua Youth Coordinator Kusitino Tabaiwalu who said they have cases of students abusing these substances in Serua and he strongly recommends that only parents be allowed to purchase volatile substances.
He said under the draft volatile substance abuse decree it states no child under the age of 18 is allowed to buy any volatile substance.
Tabaiwalu said they are doing frequent checks on victims of volatile abuse substances and a background check is conducted on the users to find out what the contributing factors are.
The Senior Assistant Roko of Serua Panapasa Rabacake said that a child protection committee has also been appointed to look into substance abuse incidents.
He said so far they have received a lot of cases of the abuse of substances in youths especially by students.
