Concerns have been raised by the district representative of Lomaloma, Pita Foi’akau in the Lau Provincial Council meeting on why the province’s vessel, the MV Lau Trader did not appear as one of the assets of the Yatu Lau Company.
Foi’akau said that he wanted to know the answer because they are shareholders of the Yatu Lau Company.
Yatu Lau Chief Executive Officer Michael Makasiale said the owner of the vessel is not Yatu Lau but Lau Shipping Company and the question has to be directed to the Lakeba Tikina Limited and the Ika Vuka enterprises.
Lau Provincial Council Chairman Filipe Bole then asked the question on whether they have anything in writing on the Lau Shipping Company to explain to the members of the council.
Makasiale said they will try to get all the information and put it in writing.
Arrangements to purchase the vessel for the province were done by Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara.
It was bought for $1 million from NZ.
