The Fiji Roads Authority will conduct an investigation to identify the existing traffic controls and road safety risks which will assist them in identifying the need for any additional improvements.
FRA’s Chief Executive Officer, Jonathan Moore highlighted this after a concerned resident of Waila, Nausori questioned whether the FRA can do something about the speeding on Princes Road.
The Waila resident says that between 19th and 28th of May this year, there have been two separate accidents near the Waila Road junction and this occurred due to speeding and careless driving.
Moore says the installation of infrastructure such as speed humps is a last resort when all other safety measures fail.
He says the public needs to understand that speed humps are not the instant cure for all traffic issues.
Moore says change in driver behaviour is important and drivers must slow down and show respect for the people that live in the villages and communities.
He says they acknowledge the concerns raised and that speeding and poor driver behavior are first and foremost enforcement issues which needs to be addressed by the Fiji Police Force and the Land Transport Authority.
We are trying to get comments from Police and LTA on this issue.
