President of the International Women’s Association, Judy Compain is asking Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad why isn't there any accountability while highlighting that the CWM Hospital ante-natal rooms are full of mould and open ceilings.
Compain says this is high risk to women and staff at the hospital.
She says the cleaning contractor is worth $2.4 million a year.
Compain says women deserve better, we all do.
When questioned by fijivillage News on the state of CWM Hospital's ante-natal rooms, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services says it is well aware of the condition of the rooms
The Ministry says the intermittent leakage from old, rusty pipes that supply the Maternity Ward has been an ongoing issue.
To address this, the Ministry says it has developed a comprehensive plan.
The Ministry says while a permanent solution is not immediate, the current temporary fix involves regular replacement of the ceiling boards.
It adds unfortunately, the current boards absorb moisture and are difficult to clean.
The Ministry says hospital staff were scheduled to replace the ceiling this weekend.
They extend their gratitude to Darren Fisher, the Managing Director of Fiji Chemicals and a member of the hospital’s Board of Visitors, who has generously volunteered to assist them during this time.
