Close to 200 people from Navua, Serua and Namosi all gathered at the Vashist Muni Memorial Primary School to celebrate Fiji’s Independence Day.
While speaking at the ceremony, Acting Divisional Commissioner Central, Anare Leweniqila acknowledged the large turn out of people despite the overcast weather including students from various schools, civil servants, private organisations and the general public.
Leweniqila also assured the people that government continues to assist them through initiatives put in place to ensure that development and assistance accommodates each individual across the community.
He adds that these include agricultural assistance through the Fiji Development Bank, small and medium enterprises, housing assistance for first home buyers and educational assistance for families.
People present at the celebrations in Navua were also entertained by the youth of Nakavu village in Namosi who performed a traditional meke.
