Classic Wallabies took on Fijian Legends team in an exhibition match to celebrate Fiji’s 50th anniversary in Sydney today.
The Classic Wallabies won the match 30-5.
The Fiji Legends had the services of Semisi Serevi, Luse Vula, Naibuka Tuiloa, Koresi Ledua, Naomi Roberts and Akanisi Vakacoa while the Classic Wallabies had players such as Justin Harrison, Matt Cockbain, Morgam Turinui, Iliseva Batibasaga, Chris Whitaker and Sera Naiqama.
Among the crowd was Australia’s Foreign Minister and Minister for Women, Marise Payne, and Fiji’s High Commissioner to Australia, Luke Daunivalu. Payne presented Daunivalu with a Wallabies jersey.
Acting Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, Anna Dorney, Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports, Alvick Maharaj and members of the Fijian sports community watched the live broadcast of the match in Suva.
Dorney says sports is a great part of the relationship between the two countries and it is something that brings everyone together.
She says over the past fifty years, Fijians have made massive contributions to Australian sport and has thanked Fiji for that.
Dorney also says that Fijian stars like Lote Tuqiri and Petero Civoniceva have become the heroes of millions of Australian fans.
She adds that today the heroes are Marika Koroibete, Josephine Maejiire, and Viliame Kikau.
