As Fiji celebrates International Anti-Corruption Day, FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali stresses that civil servants cannot be asking for money, donations, chickens, or dalo even for Christmas parties as it is illegal.
Malimali says the fight against corruption demands the active support of the public.
Malimali notes that there is room for improvement on the corruption perception index, and the updated data is expected to be shared with the public once FICAC's annual reports are tabled next month.
She also called on those receiving money from the government to remain vigilant, particularly during the festive season.
Malimali says corruption undermines democratic institutions, erodes trust in governance systems, and threatens Fiji's progress.
She calls for a collective effort from all sectors of society to combat corruption effectively.
