The Civil Law rules are being revised as they do not assist in resolving disputes within a reasonable time.
This has been highlighted by Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo during the University of Fiji Admission to the Bar who says they have directed the Civil Law Committee to work on the rules of which Magistrate Waleen George is also a part.
He says civil cases and criminal cases have to be resolved in a reasonable time.
The Acting Chief Justice further says they are working hard with the Fiji Law Society and are consulting the senior counsels to ensure that members of the Society are better served.
He says as the new practitioners are about to enter the door of the practical world, they must be polite, work hard, study their case and be firm when advocating in the courtroom.
Acting Chief Justice Temo says if they are in doubt they must consult their legal practitioners, and be very fair with the benches, about the way they speak and the way they present.
He says they must learn how to sharpen their skills of being polite and their voice projection as those are the skills of an advocate.
He also says they must understand their role when they come to the court and know the court's ethics, talk to their senior counsels, be fair with their clients and not overcharge them.
About 53 new practitioners were admitted to the bar today.
