Fiji born champion weightlifter, Eileen Cikamatana has been granted Australian citizenship.
In a statement released by Australia Weightlifting Federation, Cikamatana was fully cleared by the International Weightlifting Federation Executive Board to represent Australia internationally
Cikamatana’s first tournament will be the Australian Senior Championships which will be held in Canberra on the 19th and 20th of October and there is a possibility that she may compete as a guest at the European Juniors in Romania a week later.
In November, she has been invited to compete in Lima, Peru during the IWF Grand Prix and in December she will compete in the IWF World Cup in Qatar.
Australia Weightlifting stated that they are proud of having this young prodigy wearing the green and gold colors.
Cikamatana broke 46 weightlifting records, including three world records, in one day last month.
Cikamatana broke seven snatch records with her 114kg lift in the 87kg category, then crashed multiple records with an astonishing 155kg clean and jerk to claim two junior world records for a combined total of 269kg.
She is now the No.1 junior weightlifter in her category in the world by a whopping 50 kilograms.
Cikamatana, who won gold for Fiji in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, decided not to represent Fiji after a dispute with Weightlifting Fiji when they hired an international coach against her wishes and tried to force athletes to return to Fiji to train.
