80% of Fiji’s productive citizens are dying before the age of 70 as a result of the direct impact of related Non-Communicable diseases.

This was highlighted by President Jioji Konrote in his message for the 2018 National Sports and Wellness Day.

Konrote who is also Fiji’s lead advocate and champion in the National campaign to reduce Non-Communicable Diseases, reiterates the importance of healthy living.

He says that while Fiji carries the burden of losing $406million annually due to prevalence of the four NCD’s, the sad aspect is that NCD’s are preventable and it is well within our capability to control its rise.

Konrote urges people to choose a health lifestyle and not a “death-style” which is what NCD’s brought.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Sports and Youths will be hosting this years “National Sports and Wellness Day” in 42 venues across the country this Friday.
