The Chinese government has donated FJD $40,000 worth of equipment to the Ministry of National Disaster Management and Meteorological Services to help speed up the recovery work after Tropical Cyclone Josie.
The equipment donated included chainsaws, portable water pumps, hoses and rescue ropes.
Chinese Ambassador Qian Bo says the Chinese embassy has been in touch with the National Disaster Management Office and learnt that chainsaws and water pumps were much-needed equipment for cleaning up in disaster-affected areas.
He adds that whenever needed by the Fijian people, assistance from China will be there.
Minister for National Disaster Management Inia Seruiratu acknowledged the donation and highlighted how climate change is affecting Fiji.
Seruiratu says it is unfortunate that a few lives were lost during Tropical Cyclone Josie but it makes Fiji stronger in the attempt to rebuild and focus on the adaptation and resilience which is part of the recovery process.
