The Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Huang Yong has revealed that China will look at increasing its aid to Fiji.
Ambassador Yong said China is Fiji’s second largest aid donor and that it will seek to improve this in the near future.
According to the 2013 government budget, China provided Fiji with USD$17.97 million in aid.
Ambassador Yong also highlighted that the Chinese President, Xi Jinping will be specifically visiting Fiji because it is the hub of the Pacific and is also one of the most developed countries in the region.
He stressed that the goal of President Jinping’s visit will be to finalize and form new cooperation agreements between Fiji and China.
He added that the visit will also aim to push forward the relations between China and Fiji in politics and also strengthen economic ties and people-to-people relations.
He said China considers Fiji as a member of the Asia Pacific region and that it will always be ready to help the people of Fiji to improve their living standards.
Yong added that China will always assist Fiji in whichever way it can.
The Chinese President, Xi Jinping will meet and have discussions with the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama in Denarau next Friday.
He will also meet with leaders of Pacific countries having diplomatic relations with China.
The Chinese President will arrive in Fiji next Friday and will leave on Saturday.
