It was a night of glamour and celebration at the Grand Pacific Hotel, hosting the celebration of the 74th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China.
Speaking on behalf of the Fiji Government, Acting Chief of Protocol, Rosa Dalituicama says Fiji and China have enjoyed very close and cordial relations since 1975 and this relationship has grown from strength to strength over the years with corporations across various sectors.
She says the partnership has been guided by shared aspirations and common interests towards a comprehensive strategic partnership based on mutual trust and respect.
Dalituicama commended the visionary leadership of President Xi Jinping in Chinese national growth and the realisation of the Chinese dream.
She further says today’s evolving environment calls for renewed partnership and solidarity as the only way forward to addressing global challenges.
She adds the People’s Republic of China remains a key partner for Fiji.
Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Zhou Jian, says the relationship between Fiji and China goes a long way, and many Fijians have returned from China for education, employment and also as tourists.
He says China will align its development initiative to the 2050 strategy for the Blue Pacific continent and promote fruitful cooperation and global development initiatives.
Jian says China will continue to support Fiji’s endeavours to achieve sustainable development.
Attending the anniversary were President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, Acting Prime Minister Viliame Gavoka, Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica, Cabinet Ministers, parliamentarians, and members of the diplomatic core.
Also, students from Yat Sen Primary School sang the Fiji and Chinese national anthem.
