China has agreed to train Fijian athletes who are preparing for regional and international competition in their High-Performance training facilities and provide fully paid scholarship for officials who wish to enhance their career in sports administration, sports medicine and sports science.

China offered the assistance following the official visit of Minister for Youth and Sports, Parveen Bala to Beijing where he met his counterpart Gou Zhongwen.

China Rugby Union has also committed to sponsor 20 rugby players and coaches to study in China and also assist in rugby development at club level.

While speaking at the meeting, Bala thanked the Government of China for its continuous support towards the development initiative in Fiji especially in the area of Sports.

Bala’s says Fiji’s relationship with the Peoples Republic of China grows from their long history since the 1970s through people to people links between both the countries.

Priority areas are exchange programs for youths to learn Rugby 7s for both Men and Women from China to Fiji, and in return Fiji athletes and officials of targeted sports like table tennis, badminton, swimming and track and field to name a few.
