As Christmas is tomorrow, the children and staff of St Christopher’s Home in Nakasi were visited by the staff and management of the Land Transport Authority, in the true spirit of Christmas.
The visit saw LTA hosting dinner and presenting gifts for the children, as they tried to show their testament to the Authority’s commitment to community engagement and fostering kindness through its corporate social responsibility initiatives.
LTA Chief Executive Officer Irimaia Rokosawa says for many of the children at St Christopher’s Home, life had been an uphill journey and the Home served as a sanctuary for children from diverse backgrounds, including abandoned babies, neglected and unwanted children, orphans, and those from broken homes.
Rokosawa says each child carries a unique story, some marked by loss, others by hardship, but all united by the nurturing care they receive at the Home.
He says LTA’s visit was not just an act of giving; it was an opportunity to remind the children that they are loved and valued members of the community.
Rokosawa says the bond formed during this visit highlighted the importance of human connection and the impact of small acts of kindness and the visit was deeply meaningful for all of the LTA staff.
LTA Acting Manager Finance, Asnita Dutt says seeing the joy on the children’s faces was the best gift the LTA staff could have asked for as it reminds them that the spirit of Christmas lies in spreading love and joy.
She says the visitation also serves as a reminder that the spirit of Christmas is not confined to a single day or season, but it’s a way of living that calls for empathy, generosity, and love every day of the year.
