Child sex offender to serve prison sentence before being deported to Fiji

A Fijian child sex offender will serve his one year prison sentence before he will be deported to Fiji.

Stuff.co reports that Binal Roy Prasad also known as Bimal Roy Autar was able to fly under the radar in New Zealand for six years until an anonymous tip to authorities revealed his true identity.

He failed to declare his criminal history when he obtained a visitor visa for New Zealand in 2010.

He had been deported from the US in 2006 after serving a prison sentence for a 2004 conviction for lewd acts with a child under 14, a felony offence.

He omitted the surname "Autar" ‑ under which he had been convicted in the US ‑ from his New Zealand visa application, and declared he had never travelled outside of Fiji, and that he had no criminal convictions.

Court documents show that after entering the country, Prasad applied for at least four New Zealand visitor, student and work visas between August 2010 and October 2015, making false declarations on all of those applications.

He was able to stay in New Zealand, where he worked and studied until last year, before an anonymous tipoff to Immigration NZ revealed his past.

Prasad tried to blame his ex‑partner for the false declarations.

He pleaded guilty last year to three charges, including supplying false information and fraudulently obtaining a visa, and was sentenced to one year and nine months in prison.
