The Chiefs may have gone down 39-19 to the Blues at Eden Park on Saturday night but if anything, it gives them more reason to be optimistic about this weekend’s Super Rugby Aotearoa final against the Crusaders.
Chiefs Coach Clayton McMillan selected what was largely a reserve side for the meaningless game against the Blues.
The scoreline against the Blues blew out over the last 10 minutes, but McMillan said his team will learn a lot from it and it gives him and his team more confidence that they can upset the Crusaders in Christchurch on Saturday night.
McMillan says they are respectful of the fact that the Crusaders have set the benchmark.
He says the Crusaders are an intimidating side but they don’t put them on a pedestal.
McMillan says he has seen plenty of upsets in the past and they might see one this week.
The Chiefs will play the Crusaders in the Super Rugby Aotearoa final at 7.05pm Saturday.
Meanwhile, the Brumbies will face the Reds in the final of the Super Rugby Australia at 9.45pm Saturday.
