Chiefs coach Warren Gatland has blamed his players for their dismal performance in their 33-31 loss to the Highlanders yesterday afternoon in the Super Rugby Aotearoa.

The Chiefs were in a clear 31-19 lead with fifteen minutes left to go in the second half, but could not hold on as the Highlanders touched down with two tries from Jona Nareki and Sio Tomkinson.

Gatland says sometimes winning and losing becomes a habit but they have to be smart in terms of how to get out of that mindset.

He adds they should be consistent in their performance every week.

The Chiefs will take on the Blues at 3.35pm Sunday while the Crusaders will face the Hurricanes at 7.05pm Saturday.
