Year 13 student Divnesh Chandra was lost for words as he was appointed the Head Boy of Nabua Secondary School today.
He is the first Head Boy of Indian descent in the school's history.
Chandra who hails from Rakiraki says his belief in God has brought him to where he is now and he firmly believes that everything happens for a reason.
He says it is a very proud moment for him and he cannot describe his feelings.
Chandra says the appointment has come as a surprise to him because he was only expecting to be a senior prefect.
The 19-year-old says he hopes to be a role model and a good leader for the fellow students of the school.
Chandra says coming from a broken family, his biggest challenge growing up was balancing his school work and doing chores at home.
However he says this has made him become a much stronger person.
Chandra aspires to become an accountant.
