Challenging year for tourism sector – Lockington

The Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association is aware that 2024 will be a challenging year for them, and they will need to up their game in terms of being more competitive, offering more value for money, making sure that our services are elevated and making sure we market and position Fiji well.

Association CEO Fantasha Lockington says they are entering a year where there are a few unknowns, and there are obviously a few challenges that they understand from the markets that traditionally bring our visitors from including Australia and New Zealand.

She says they are working with the Ministry for Agriculture as they want to see more fresh local produce in hotels.

Lockington says they are also working with some of the smaller farmers, including some women entrepreneurs who are farmers themselves who want to showcase their produce during the 2024 HOTEC Trade Show.

She adds one of the hurdles they are facing in this regard is that suppliers cannot consistently supply the produce all year round.
