South Africa 7s Head Coach Neil Powell has named legend Cecil Afrika in their Rugby 7s World Cup squad, which will be held in Cape Town, South Africa.
The final 12-member squad will be named on Wednesday.
10 of the players in the squad helped South Africa to win the gold at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in July.
Dewald Human and Zain Davids have not been included due to injuries in Los Angeles.
Afrika will replace Human.
He made his World Series debut for Blitzboks in Dubai in 2009 and last played for his country in Vancouver in March 2020.
The 34-year-old is South Africa’s all-time leading points-scorer in the World Series with 1,462 despite not playing for over two years.
The Rugby 7s World Cup will be held from next Friday to Sunday.
