Oceania Rugby Women's Director and physiotherapist Cathy Wong has dedicated her Fiji 50 commemorative medal to all volunteers who assist organisations in looking after people.
Wong who received her medal from President Jioji Konrote says if there are no volunteers then nothing can be achieved as they are the drivers of an organisation.
She says she will always wear her medal with pride and honour wherever she goes because the medal is not about her but it is about the people who nominated her for the good work that she has done in the area of sports and also for the Red Cross Society.
Wong says 28 years with the Fiji rugby team has allowed her to develop networks, develop skill sets, and to use rugby as a platform to benchmark women’s involvement in sports particularly off the field and she is forever grateful to FRU for opening that door for her and allowing the journey to continue.
The physiotherapist says volunteering is not a new thing to her as she started from a young age and she has been doing this for as long as she knows.
She highlighted that when a door opens or when an opportunity comes up, do not look down on yourself and remember that people nominate you in that position because they have faith in you and you will always have backups to support you.
