Category 3 TC Tino continues to move further away from the Fiji Group

Category 3 Tropical Cyclone Tino is moving further away from Fiji the group.

The Nadi Weather Office has now cancelled the Tropical Cyclone Warning for Lakeba,Oneata, Moce, Komo, Kabara, Namuka-i-Lau, Fulaga, Ogea, Ono-i-Lau and Vatoa.

The Weather Office says TC Tino was located 390 kilometres East of Kabara at 3pm today.

Close to it’s centre, the cyclone is expected to have damaging winds gusting to 170 kilometres per hour.

A heavy rain warning remains in force for the Southern and Eastern parts of the larger islands which includes Suva, Navua,  Nausori, Tailevu, and the interior parts of Viti Levu,  Labasa, Seaqaqa, Savusavu and Bua, Lomaiviti and the Lau Group.

Lakeba: Waitabu

Viliame Gaunavinaka of Waitabu in Lakeba says he saw fallen tree branches all over the village ground earlier this morning as they were feeling the effects of TC Tino.

He says the weather is beginning to clear.

Waciwaci :

The Turaga ni Koro of Waciwaci Village in Lakeba, Oreti Saubulinayau says there is no major damages in their village.

He adds he was grateful the villagers had moved to higher ground earlier last year as all the uninhabited homes at the old site by the shore was filled with flood waters from the storm surge.

Vanuabalavu: Lomaloma

Lomaloma Village headman Sovakele Levaci confirms there is no major structural damage in the village however the root crops got affected by TC Tino.

Levaci says they felt strong winds last night.

Jone Bese who lives in Nasau, Moce says their level of preparedness was good as everyone took advisories seriously and the whole village came together to help secure things.

Bese confirms there were no reports of damage to property however root crops got affected by TC Tino.

He says the next step for them will be cleaning up their village.
