A resort which suffered more than $8 million in damages after Hurricane Evan in December last year has managed to turn things around with its staff.
In the 16 years of Seru Loga’s employment she had never experienced anything quite like the vast damage done by Evan to Castaway Island Resort.
For Loga who is the mother of four and the sole bread winner, seeing the damage to the resort left her with the fear that she would lose her job.
Loga added that for her and the staff it was such a blessing when the management finally announced that none of the workers would be laid off.
The 196 staff of Castaway then led the way in repairing the damage left behind by the Hurricane Evan.
For 3 months the resort was closed, as staff re-thatched and painted bures, added new tapa lined ceilings, and also had new air conditioning units put in.
Yesterday while reopening Castaway Island Resort, Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum praised the staff for their tremendous dedication.
He added that the resort owners and the staff had put all their resources together for the refurbishment which demonstrates that there can be a wonderful relationship between an employer and employees.
